Workplace Training and Lifelong Learning

Education is the key to success in the labour market and in society in general. Advances in technology and changes in the labour market will mean that individuals will have to continually assess, develop and upgrade their skills to achieve career success.

There are a variety of learning options available to support professional development, workplace training and lifelong learning.

Recognizing prior learning

Individuals often possess skills and qualifications that they have acquired outside of a formal education setting or that may not be recognized by a credential process. However, these skills may enable them to carry out a number of job duties.

There are a number of prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR) processes available. Please follow the links below to access further information on PLAR in the province and Canada.

Distance education

Distance education offers the option of completing courses without having to physically attend an educational institution.

Courses are often completed using audio or video cassettes, audio, video or virtual conferencing, computer-assisted instruction, interactive videodiscs, CD-ROMs, intranets and other media.
